Content License
Last updated: July 2026
LiftCodex content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International licence. Take it, share it, build on it. Credit us, and do not sell it.
What this covers
The original content we wrote and compiled: the strength standards tables, calculator explanations, technique guides, training program summaries, statistics articles, the glossary, and the FAQ text.
What you are free to do
- Share pages, tables, and articles anywhere, in any medium or format.
- Print and hand out the strength standards or a technique guide at your gym.
- Quote or translate our content in a blog post, video, or newsletter.
- Adapt and build on it: remix a table, restructure a guide, make a chart from our data.
- Use it in teaching, coursework, or a non-commercial coaching resource.
You do not need to ask us first. That is the point of the licence.
Under two conditions
Credit LiftCodex and link back to the page you took it from. Say if you changed anything. Do not imply we endorse you or your work.
You may not use the material for commercial purposes, meaning anything primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation.
What counts as commercial
The line is whether the use is primarily aimed at commercial advantage or monetary compensation. Some examples, to save you guessing:
- A personal blog or a free newsletter
- A gym handout for your members
- A university lecture or student project
- A free YouTube video that happens to be monetised only by the platform
- A paid app, ebook, or course built on our tables
- A commercial coaching product that resells our content
- Republishing our pages on an ad-monetised content farm
- Training a commercial product on our content and selling access to it
If your use sits somewhere in the middle, ask us at [email protected]. We are reasonable, and a commercial licence is usually available.
What this licence does not cover
We can only license what is ours. These are carved out:
Creative Commons licences are not designed for software and we are not applying one to ours. The code behind LiftCodex is not covered by this licence.
Epley, Brzycki, Wilks, DOTS, IPF GL, Mifflin St Jeor and the rest are published work belonging to their authors and governing bodies. We implement them; we never owned them, so we cannot license them to you.
StrongLifts, Starting Strength, 5/3/1, Texas Method, GZCLP and similar belong to their respective owners and are referenced descriptively. Nothing here grants you any right in them.
Our name, logo, and visual identity are not part of the licence. Attribution is not a licence to present yourself as LiftCodex.
How to attribute
Anything that names the source and links back is fine. For example:
licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0.
No warranty
The licence grants permission, not a promise of accuracy. The content is provided as is, and our Disclaimer still applies to you and to anyone you share it with. If you republish our training or nutrition content, carry the medical disclaimer with it.
